This is the wooden valance that I made for our bedroom. It's made out of Hickory to match our bed. I used floor scraps from work, and finished it with one coat of oil based sanding sealing and three coats of water based polyurethane.
I built it to match the design of our head and foot boards.

Clap hands. Looking good! Also, went to the MN Zoo last weekend and saw your handy work. Looks good. And incidentally, it was the best smelling part of the zoo, thanks to the varnish.
Wow that looks awesome! Way to go! Is the next project two matching night stands (for next to the bed)?
